If you have been psychologically injured at work in NSW

Once your claim is accepted, approved treatment is paid by the insurer. No gap fee, and no invoice at the end of the session.

I'm a SIRA-approved psychologist and I have spent six years working in workplace rehabilitation and workers compensation. I know how this system works, which matters more than people expect, because navigating the scheme can be part of what is keeping you unwell.

What I treat

  • Psychological injury from workplace bullying, harassment or excessive work demands
  • Work-related stress and emotional strain
  • Adjustment difficulties following physical injury
  • Anxiety and depression arising from or aggravated by work
  • Return-to-work difficulties, loss of confidence, and losing your sense of who you are at work

How to start

  1. See your nominated treating doctor. In NSW, psychology treatment under a workers compensation claim requires a referral from your nominated treating doctor, the GP you have nominated to manage your claim. Ask them for a referral to a SIRA-approved psychologist.
  2. Initial sessions usually do not need pre-approval. If your treatment starts within three months of injury and you have not seen another psychologist for this injury, where your claim or provisional liability (the insurer agreeing to pay while it looks at your claim) is accepted, you are generally entitled to up to eight consultations without the insurer pre-approving them. If more than three months have passed, it's usually up to three.
  3. Ongoing treatment is arranged through me. Beyond those sessions I lodge an Allied Health Treatment Request (AHTR) with your insurer. You don't need to chase it. That's my job.
  4. Book a free 15-minute call using the button on this page, or ask your case manager to contact me. Have your claim number, insurer and your doctor's referral handy.

Do I pay to see a psychologist on workers comp?

Nothing, for approved treatment under an accepted claim. Fees for workers compensation treatment are set by SIRA and paid directly by the insurer. Charging you a gap fee for treatment within scope is not permitted, and I don't. If your claim hasn't been accepted yet, or is declined, we'll talk through your options before any session goes ahead, including seeing me privately with a Medicare rebate.

Schemes I work under

I'm a SIRA-approved psychologist for NSW workers compensation, where fees are set by SIRA and paid directly by the insurer. I also treat people with a CTP (motor accident) claim, once the CTP insurer has approved treatment.

  • icare NSW workers insurance
  • Self-insured and specialised insurer schemes
  • CTP (motor accident) psychological injury

Why me

Six years working in workplace rehabilitation and workers compensation means, in practice:

  • I know the paperwork. AHTRs, treatment requests, case conferences, insurer reporting. Handled promptly, so your treatment is not held up by admin.
  • I'll talk to the people managing your claim. Case conferencing with your treating doctor, case manager and rehab provider, when it's useful to you and with your consent.
  • I understand what it's like to lose your sense of who you are at work. For a lot of people the injury isn't the hardest part. Not feeling like yourself is. That's much of my clinical focus, and it's what I bring from working with athletes too.

Telehealth

Telehealth is available across NSW at no disadvantage to you. The scheme funds telehealth at the same rate as in-person, so there is no reason to spend an hour in traffic if you would rather not. Under SIRA's rules, workers compensation telehealth needs to be by video unless video genuinely isn't available.

Common questions

Do I need a referral?
Yes. Under the NSW scheme, psychology treatment needs a referral from your nominated treating doctor, the GP managing your claim. If that isn't in place yet, I'm happy to help sort it out.
Do I pay anything?
No, for approved treatment under an accepted claim. The insurer pays me directly at rates set by SIRA, and there's no gap fee.
How many sessions are covered at first?
If treatment starts within three months of your injury, usually up to eight sessions without the insurer needing to pre-approve them. After three months, usually up to three. Beyond that, I request more for you.
Can we meet by video?
Yes. Video sessions are available anywhere in NSW and are funded the same as in-person sessions.
