Telehealth across NSW
Secure video sessions from anywhere in New South Wales, including regional and rural areas, and the days you simply can't get into the city.
Does it work as well?
For most presentations, yes. Trials comparing video and in-person psychological therapy, including CBT, find broadly equivalent outcomes for many presentations. The practical barriers (travel, childcare, shift rosters, being seen walking into a psychologist's office in a small town) usually matter more to whether treatment succeeds.
When I'll recommend in person instead
- Significant dissociation, where I need to see more of you than a screen shows
- Acute risk requiring close monitoring
- Situations where you have nowhere genuinely private to take the call
What you need
- The video link in your appointment confirmation and reminders. It opens in your web browser: no app or account needed.
- A private space where you won't be interrupted for the full session
- A reliable internet connection. Video is best; phone can be used for some sessions if video isn't possible.
- Headphones, which make a bigger difference than people expect
- The address you're joining from, which I record for safety purposes
Funding
Medicare rebates apply to telehealth sessions with a Mental Health Treatment Plan on the same terms as in-person sessions. Workers compensation sessions by video are funded at the same rate as in-person sessions. Under SIRA's rules, workers compensation telehealth needs to be by video unless video genuinely isn't available.
